Alpha Laboratories

The Dedication of a Family Business

Find out more about Alpha Laboratories

Since 1975 Alpha Laboratories has been providing support to UK and international scientists.

The company remains today, as always, a family-run business with the same vision and ethos, whilst continuing to focus on customer needs and ever-changing technologies.

Sadly, David Giles our Chairman, passed away in 2018. As a founding member of the company he leaves a legacy of a respected and successful organisation that was and continues to be passionate about finding new ways to help science improve people's lives.

David had a keen eye for detail and his desire to bring together all the strengths of the staff over the years was well known. He had the vision, coupled with a relentless drive, to build Alpha Laboratories into the reputable, high quality service company it now is.

David is greatly missed but the Board continues to forge ahead on the path laid by him, with the same drive and passion.

Importantly, the Giles family thanks all the staff (past and present), customers and suppliers for their continued support.

Alpha Laboratories development has spanned four decades of biotechnical innovation and in David's own words:

Alpha Laboratories sources innovative products internationally to support the needs of laboratories in the rapidly advancing healthcare environment. We have developed not only by looking after the customer but also by considering their patients, always providing products that bring clinical as well as functional or cost saving benefits. As a result, we have gained a solid reputation for being honest, helpful and caring, with a special emphasis on being a friendly organisation too.

Though we’re quite a small player in a diagnostic market that has continually demanding requirements, we find solutions and develop them within the UK. In fact, we’re passionate about helping science improve people’s lives. For me it’s always been a key motivator."

Alpha Laboratories has pioneered developments in the UK, especially in the niche market of bowel cancer diagnostics and products to help differentiate Inflammatory Bowel Disease from Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Progress continues with the introduction of automated Quantitative Faecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) for haemoglobin. Based on peer reviewed publications FIT is the best test to use for bowel cancer screening and also symptomatic triage, especially when used with a clever, hygienic and sample collection kit to encourage screening uptake.

Correct diagnosis is the first critical step that enables appropriate action to improve patients' medical conditions.

The team at Alpha Laboratories know you have a choice and that’s why we remain dedicated to providing specialist, personalised customer service now and for many years to come.
